Prof.dr. Rudy Nuijts, project leader of InSciTe’s ophthalmics project OCDC, has received the Brightlands Convention Award for the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) Winter Meeting 2017. This meeting will attract about 1500 international eye surgeons to Maastricht. The award was presented to prof.dr. Nuijts last Saturday (19th of March) by Annemarie Penn-te Strake, mayor of Maastricht. The award designates him as the year’s “best ambassador” for Maastricht as a venue for conventions.

Prof.dr. Nuijts was not the only winning project member in the OCDC project. Earlier last week, Marlies Gijs won the Dr. Jan Huynen Award for her PhD dissertation “Preclinical Development of 68Ga-labelled Aptamers for Molecular Cancer Imaging”. The Dr. Jan Huynen Award is an innovation award to recognize PhD candidates in the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion and achieve cross-border collaboration opportunities.

A detailed interview with the award winners will be available in InSciTe's next issue of the newsletter.
