InSciTe opened its first shared RT&D facility on the campus with a concomitant symposium. With pleasure we look back on a great day.

The opening of the Biomedical facility was celebrated on September 28th with a symposium in the impressive building of DSM Materials Science Center on the Brightlands Chemelot Campus. Over 200 guests including press traveled to Limburg to attend. After the official opening by Emiel Staring, Marcel Wubbolts reflected on the journey of Chemelot InSciTe as the chairman of the InSciTe board. A panel discussion raised some very interesting questions from the audience which were answered

the founding fathers and managing director of InSciTe. Two of InSciTe’s research projects were introduced, followed by a keynote lecture by Koenraad Debackere (KU Leuven) about “the triple helix, emerging challenges in innovation management”.

Guided tours were organized to the new research facility, to give each guest the opportunity to see some of the specialized equipment like the electron microscope, electrospinner and mechanical testing machine. The lab space of 600m2 has several areas enabling various research projects to run at the same time, without jeopardizing project privacy. In addition, part of the facility can be rented out to third parties, enabling small start-up companies to have access to specialized laboratory space and facilities.

Chris Duxbury, Manager Biomedical Facility said about the grand opening: “Our guests were impressed by the state-of-the-art equipment, the design of the rooms and infrastructure, together with the flexibility that this enables. This physical workspace will stimulate cross-fertilization between public and private partners. I am proud to help create this innovative ecosystem.”

The Biomedical laboratory was officially opened by Twan Beurskens, Regional Minister of Economic Affairs Provincie Limburg. Here are some more impressions from the event in honor of the opening of the biomedical facility.
