With the ending of the year approaching, it is time to reflect on our achievements in the start-up phase of InSciTe. What better way to do this than with our very first issue of the Chemelot InSciTe newsletter “The Insider". The Insider will bring you quarterly news and highlights on our biomedical and biobased RT&D activities, entrepreneurial activities, education & training program and the Chemelot InSciTe community.
Looking back on 2015, we are very proud of our achievements and you can read all about it in more detail in this issue of the Insider. As of March 2015 the Chemelot Institute for Science and
Technology (InSciTe) was officially established as a foundation. From our location at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus, we are determined to create a breeding ground for public and private partners to work together on innovative ‘green’ chemical building blocks from biomass and to develop, test and prepare new biomedical materials ready to be put on the market. Our first facility, the biomedical laboratory, was officially opened in September by Twan Beurskens, Regional Minister of Economic Affairs Provincie Limburg and celebrated with a symposium. In addition, the first education & training curricula have started on regulatory affairs, GMP and InSciTe IP Guidelines and our RT&D activities have kicked off. You can find upcoming training modules in this newsletter under Upcoming Events. By clicking on these links, you will find more specific information on the training and how to subscribe. The InSciTe project portfolio consists of three biomedical projects and three biobased projects. A second call for new biomedical project proposals has resulted in the submission of five new projects. Beginning of 2016, the board will announce which proposed projects will be added to the InSciTe portfolio.
And we have more exciting times to look forward to. For 2016, we aim to strengthen and grow our network of public and private parties. InSciTe will organize the first Annual meeting in 2016, a chance to discuss project updates during plenary sessions and poster presentations. We are very much looking forward to the first results. We are also making great progress with our second facility, the biobased pilot plant, which will be opening early 2016.
On a more practical note, the InSciTe office will be closed during the holiday season from December 21th, 2015 until January 4th 2016. The team of InSciTe wishes you joyful holidays and happy readings.
