In the summer of 2015, Chemelot Research Facilities B.V. has started building a series of pilot plants on the Brightlands Chemelot Campus. One of which will be a multi-purpose chemical plant to be used by different parties, including Chemelot InSciTe, for testing and demonstrating preparation of (biobased) building blocks from renewable raw materials on a pilot scale (approx. 100kg/day).

The pilot plant
This facility fulfills an important requirement for companies to scale up processes from lab or bench scale to pilot scale, to reduce capital and risk in scaling up to demo scale and full scale production. The biobased pilot plant will employ the newest technologies, e.g. the spinning disk reactor of Flowid, next to standard equipment. A separate legal entity, Chemelot Research Facilities BV, is responsible for the exploitation of these pilot plant facilities.
